As you learn about internet marketing, one of the terms you are going to see tossed around a lot is "SEO".
"SEO" stands for Search Engine Optimization and it is a technique used by internet marketers and website owners to raise their pages as high in the ranks of the search engine's pages as possible. SEO can be utilized by anyone who wants to do Internet marketing, and you might be daunted by the number of methods that are out there for you to use. How do you know which SEO methods are best?
You have to take some time to see results from SEO. It takes Google a long time to crawl the entire internet. The truth is that the Internet is just enormous! Don't allow yourself to become frustrated if you spend a lot of time on keyword research and you aren't ranking high on search lists immediately. It takes time for Google and the other search engine spiders to get to every site. If you are ever offered to rank first page on a search list in 24 hours, you may as well leave it alone. Exercise caution. Make sure you wait a month or two before deciding to try something else, because they might not have gotten to you yet!
Do not fall prey to the so called "black hat" SEO techniques that would have you littering the page with keywords, but making them the same color as the background so that they cannot be seen or displaying them behind images on the site. These are nothing more than fast ways to get you banned by the major search engines. If someone says, 'this is completely legit!' but you know it sounds too good to be, then follow your gut. If something sounds like it's a scam or a way to get over, then it is. And you will end up caught and penalized. Go with what is effective. Ditch the scams. Don't try to optimize for more than one keyword at a time. You want to make sure each page or post is tightly focused and only has a single keyword phrase. If you try to incorporate too many keyword phrases, your writing could end up not being readable at all. Remember, you want your content to be readable and enjoyable. If you are trying to artificially boost the number of keyword phrases, your copy will come across as spammy for the reader and they will be unlikely to continue. Always remember that search engine spiders are important, but readers matter more! It may seem an enormous challenge to understand what is allowed and not at all allowed in search engine optimization, with all the numerous rules and requirements. It doesn't help at all that it's a constantly changing thing, either. But if you keep at it and don't allow yourself to become frustrated, you can reap the benefits of using SEO before you know it. In a matter of time, you might one day look and see that you are on the first page result with Google!
